Jul 16, 2026

First Reading: 1 Kings 18:42-45

42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; there he bowed himself down upon the earth and put his face between his knees. 43He said to his servant, ”Go up now, look toward the sea.“ He went up and looked, and said, ”There is nothing.“ Then he said, ”Go again seven times.“ 44At the seventh time he said, ”Look, a little cloud no bigger than a person’s hand is rising out of the sea.“ Then he said, ”Go say to Ahab, ‘Harness your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’“ 45In a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind; there was a heavy rain. Ahab rode off and went to Jezreel.

Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7

4But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. 6And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ”Abba! Father!“ 7So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

Gospel: John 19:25-27

25And that is what the soldiers did. Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, ”Woman, here is your son.“ 27Then he said to the disciple, ”Here is your mother.“ And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
